Maersk and MSC to end 2M alliance in 2025

The first things that come to mind when thinking about shipping internationally are MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) and Maersk A/S carriers. These two giant brands are the world’s largest container shipping lines and grew upon their names even more with an alliance called 2M.

İt’s between MSC and Maersk began in 2015 and included the terms regarding sharing vessels, also known as vessel sharing agreement (VSA), which allows them to manage capacity better by pooling the containers. Also, it allowed them to offer more frequent and direct services while optimizing their fleet deployment to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

The company authorities announced that the 2M alliance ends in 2025.

The CEO of A. P. Moller – Maersk, Vincent Clerc and the CEO of MSC, Soren Toft stated that:

“MSC and Maersk recognize that much has changed since the two companies signed the 10-year agreement in 2015. Discontinuing the 2M alliance paves the way for both companies to continue to pursue their individual strategies.”

In 2015, the sides agreed on a minimum term of 10 years for this alliance with a 2-year notice period of termination. In a recent statement, Maersk and MSC announced that they mutually agreed to dissolve the existing 2M alliance in January 2025.
